Two decades ago, Aceh was synonymous with armed conflict, the devastating tsunami, and economic isolation. Today, Aceh has transformed into a safe, comfortable, and investor-friendly province. Smooth highways connect major cities, airports and ports are fully operational, and communities live in harmony with genuine smiles.
The Helsinki Peace Agreement of 2005 marked a historic turning point. Since then, the government and local communities have built public trust and strengthened socio-economic foundations. Stability has become the cornerstone for halal tourism, creative economy, and strategic investments. Aceh’s narrative has shifted from fear to tranquility, from conflict to collaboration and development.

Security and Stability: The Foundation of Aceh’s Growth
Economic growth and tourism development rely on stable security. Aceh has proven that stability is a primary asset. According to the Aceh Police Chief, crime rates decreased by 23% between 2020 and 2024. A human-centered approach by law enforcement, combined with close coordination with religious leaders, has created a conducive environment for tourists and investors.
A 2024 tourist satisfaction survey by the Aceh Culture and Tourism Office reported that over 95% of visitors felt safe, demonstrating that security in Aceh is not just a statistic—it is a tangible experience.

Tourism Transformation: From Conflict to Halal Destination
Aceh is now a premier destination for nature, history, and religious tourism. From the pristine waters of Sabang, to Lake Lut Tawar in Takengon, to the exotic beaches of Aceh Jaya and Simeulue, the province captivates both domestic and international travelers.
Tourist arrivals in 2024 reached 2.1 million, a 28% increase from 2023. The province actively promotes halal tourism, with certified halal food, prayer facilities, and Muslim-friendly services. Historic and cultural attractions such as Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Tsunami Museum, and sites of the Aceh Sultanate continue to draw international attention. Annual festivals like the Aceh Culinary Festival and Sabang Marine Festival attract thousands of visitors each year.
Halal tourism also drives new economic opportunities. Local SMEs market halal food, crafts, Gayo coffee, and Sharia-compliant tourism services, making Aceh a halal economy laboratory in Southeast Asia.
